Welcome to our latest spotlight story from RE:IMAGINEATL, where we delve into the quiet life of recent high school graduate Delvin Woodruff. As an 18-year old recent graduate, this young man who affectionately goes by Bear was reserved at first, but quickly showed that silent prowess rarely ever equates to weakness.

From High School Sports to Paid Summer Intern

If you haven’t heard, 2025 is Atlanta’s Year of the Youth! According to Mayor Andre Dickens that means calling on partners in the private sector, governments, and nonprofits like RE:IMAGINE to create 3000 jobs, internships and externships. Delvin was one of 7,000 registrants who received an internship this summer and he was not planning to waste the opportunity. While joining the team meetings, Bear shared his passion for gaming, anime, and capturing photos while working on his yearbook team at Best Academy. No one was prepared for the storytelling powerhouse Delvin proved himself to be.

A Day in the Life of a RE:IMAGINE ATL 2025 SYE Intern

Jumping in head first into a new role can be intimidating especially for summer interns who often join projects during the busiest time of the year. Delvin says he knew that his “nack for graphic design and ability to listen to criticism and adapt” made him unique from the jump. So he comes in and shadows a few meetings but he knew that there was more in store for him this summer. Delvin was placed as a production intern and began shadowing the No Comment Filmmaking Cohort where he could engage with more in-depth storytelling workshops, practice hands-on filmmaking techniques, and network with other driven filmmakers; his age. Delvin shares that “—some skills I’ve learned are script writing, acting, and improving my photography.”

Dreaming His Internship Days Away

Delvin is inspired by life, current media, and his personal interests, but how can a new intern make waves with only inspiration? As we walk across the graduation stage, we go forth into the world bubbling with potential and ideas; but like many, Delvin wondered how to get his dreams out and into the rooms where they can do the most good? Delvin Woodruff says that his biggest takeaway from the summer was “to write down your ideas.” No idea is a bad idea and if you can envision it you can create something of quality.” Moreover, Delvin quickly emerged as someone who accomplishes things with ease. “Delvin dove right into each and every exercise and got comfortable fast with industry-standard gear. Once we were on set, he was practically gaffing and lighting scenes on his own,” shares fellow RE:IMAGINE producer.

Words of Wisdom

“Just come with an open mind” Woodruff shares. While it seems easier said than done, sometimes the best answer is the one right in front of you. Creating in this industry gets convoluted when you’re stuck in your head worrying, but if you can be open to working with different people and in different ways, your path can become very straightforward and clear!

Looking Ahead

Delvin shares, “I plan on using this program to become a part of my university’s tribune or athletics social media. I plan to try and do some extracurricular activities and gain experience on the weekends if possible.” In 5 years Delvin hopes to graduate college with honors. He hopes to continue developing his skillset as a photographer and creative.  He aspires to be “ at a point where my photography can take care of me financially.” Even if that means working with a company, he’s happy to do what it takes to live out his dreams.

Next Steps

What’s next for this charming young storyteller and photographer? Only he can decide from here, but one thing’s for sure: his inspiring journey is one you do not want to miss.  Delvin is not just working behind the camera, he is developing a well-rounded education and portfolio and that experience will stand the test of time.
